Da Chu (Great Accumulation): I Ching Tarot Insights

Da Chu: The Great Accumulating. Perseverance furthers. Not eating at home brings good fortune. It furthers one to cross the great water. Heaven within the mountain: the image of Great Accumulating. Thus the superior man acquaints himself with many sayings of antiquity and many deeds of the past, in order to accumulate his virtue.

Great Accumulation

Great Accumulation (Da Chu)

Do you feel full of ambition and a drive to act, yet find yourself held back by an invisible wall? “Da Chu” represents the vastness of Heaven held within the stillness of a Mountain. This is not a blockade; it is a reservoir designed to nurture you. This accumulation ensures that when you finally break through, your impact will be profound.

Psychologically, this is the process of building a “mental container.” Your inner drive (Heaven) requires a stable structure (Mountain) to hold and refine it. If you feel frustrated by delays, ask yourself: are you merely pushing against the walls, or are you consciously accumulating strength? The text encourages you to step beyond your comfort zone and absorb the wisdom of the past. This temporary pause is for learning how to command your energy rather than being enslaved by it.

Practice enduring the anxiety of being restrained. This weight is your nourishment. When you continue to grow despite limitations, your inner capacity expands. The mountain’s stillness protects your inner vastness. When your accumulation is deep enough, the path to the future will open effortlessly.

Laozi said: “The great vessel takes long to complete.” Da Chu is nature’s philosophy of investment. That something as vast as Heaven can be contained within a Mountain speaks to the power of character. Modern life demands speed, but Taoism teaches that speed without substance leads to an early collapse. Do not fear being unnoticed or slow. Use this time to refine your inner craft. When your inner abundance overflows, you won’t need to compete; the world will naturally make way for you.
