A Strange Career Encounter

During 2011-2012, the promotion for my spiritual energy studio wasn’t going very smoothly. For a few months, I found a job as an assistant at a spiritual institute through a recruitment site. The working hours were quite tight—every day from noon until 9:00 PM. The teachers and students there were very kind. Initially, I didn’t mention that I was already providing spiritual counseling sessions myself. However, it wasn’t long before the students started asking me to be a “guinea pig” for their spiritual techniques. I often ended up being their practice subject outside of working hours. Gradually, even some certified consultants at the center began practicing with me, and only then did I slowly reveal to the students that I had actually been providing professional sessions for some time.

It wasn’t a very large organization. Like most spiritual institutes, it wasn’t a place meant for profit, but rather a space where the lead teacher shared his learning experiences and philosophies. My work back then was very complex: greeting students, preparing classrooms, organizing teaching materials, designing various promotional flyers, and manning the front desk as an assistant ready to support classes at any time… I had to assist with many small details constantly. The teacher looked very energetic, and sometimes first-time visitors would praise him for radiating a “white light.” Naturally, the teacher would share how he had worked tirelessly day and night when he was learning spiritual theories and techniques to achieve his accomplishments.

As a good person like the teacher, I truly had no reason to dislike him. Moreover, when I calculated the money he earned, there wasn’t much left after costs, rent, and my salary. From this, I could infer the depth of his determination in this industry. Occasionally, besides myself, he would seek help from students or try to find sales talent to help with promotion. But this was difficult; promoting witchcraft or magic tricks would usually be easier. When it comes to deeply cultivating one’s soul, the number of visitors is truly low, and many people think it’s a place for “curing illnesses” and don’t come because they believe they aren’t sick (who knows where that idea came from). The thing is: the spiritual industry is not a hospital. It has many functions, such as self-improvement, embracing or accepting oneself, and healing one’s soul and those around them… it is not part of medical treatment. Thus, over time, the teacher and students invented many exaggerated slogans and sales pitches. I knew these were processes that inevitably happened for “corporate management,” but honestly, I didn’t quite like it. Still, I followed instructions to create flyers and decorations. Looking back now, the teacher indeed racked his brains to complete every step he could, which was quite exhausting.

Of course, as an employee, one should really like the teacher. However, from the standpoint of a spiritual worker, I couldn’t agree with his use of a self-created SOP method to have students, who lacked intuitive sensitivity, conduct deep spiritual or soul-related consultations. He believed that by having the affected parties enter an Alpha wave state to communicate with spirits, the students equipped with this SOP could assist from the side. This was quite incredible—essentially, he was training a group of “blind teachers” to help students with painting, where the teacher, who couldn’t see any images, would guide the painting based on the student’s descriptions. It sounds unbelievable, but the students following him at the time believed this approach was perfectly fine.

At that time, I was preparing to go to the Osho Commune in India for more spiritual learning and meditation, so I didn’t spend much mind on that strange discourse. However, during that process of preparing for my “wandering,” the teacher took a job in Southeast Asia. Supposedly, there are many customs of “keeping ghosts” there, but after the business became successful, the clients wanted to sever ties with those “friends” who had assisted them. The teacher took his wife and a recognized consultant and flew over. Before long, we received good news from the teacher. At that time, the energy field of the entire institute underwent a huge change. The air-conditioned room, which wasn’t very well-ventilated to begin with, started becoming even more “misty.” You could feel the presence of different dimensions active in every corner. But since I was focused on my trip to India and was just an assistant, I didn’t pay much attention to these increasingly intense changes.

Naturally, the series of successes the teacher reported from Southeast Asia were very inspiring. Immediately after returning to Taiwan, he recruited a manager to help with promotion and a replacement for my position, then quickly flew back to Southeast Asia again. Before long, the office became much busier. The new manager had many new ideas and methods ready to execute. Just as we expected the promotion work to go smoothly, the new manager suddenly stopped showing up for work. I and the other two colleagues who were to replace me were shocked; we couldn’t guess what had happened to the manager who was ready to showcase his talents.

Just as we were about to give up because we couldn’t contact the missing manager, he surprisingly showed up on the fourth day. We were stunned and wondered how such a strange person could exist. So, I found an opportunity to ask the new manager what had happened. Unexpectedly, this new manager was very enthusiastic and kept looking for a chance to chat with me. He said, “It was like this: a few days ago, I went home after work and went to sleep. When I woke up, I found myself in the hospital ER. According to my family, I just fell asleep and wouldn’t wake up, and I didn’t respond to their calls.

They got scared and sent me to the hospital the next afternoon. The hospital said my condition was fine, I was just sleeping. After I woke up, someone I know took me to a mountain to see a master. That master told me that our company boss took on many cases he shouldn’t have taken, so the magnetic field here has changed drastically. Because I had some cultivation in my past life, starting work here meant I began to ‘carry’ the changes of the entire energy field. And I’m not the only one carrying it; there’s also a girl carrying it, but that girl will definitely resign at a certain point, and that’s when our company will collapse. Then the mountain master said that while it looks very problematic with the two of you carrying this now, it’s actually doing a good deed for the future, and you will understand later. After that, I came down from the mountain and returned to work. It’s strange, as soon as the master mentioned a girl was also carrying it, I immediately knew it was you, and aren’t you about to leave for India for a while?”

After hearing this, I knew very clearly in my heart that this spiritual institute had indeed taken on work beyond its scope. Since the consultants and students there weren’t intuitive types, they would occasionally think that some old students who returned seeking help because of actual problems were there to cause trouble. But because I wasn’t part of that systemic structure and was just a salaried employee, I could only watch many situations without being able to assist. I told the new manager that what the master said was likely correct. The structure of this spiritual institute itself had some problems, and because it wanted to expand, it took on many major cases, leaving the entire energy field in a state of gloom. The manager told me he really needed the money, which is why he came back, hoping at least to work for a few more months. I patted him, and the two of us tacitly didn’t mention it to anyone else, continuing to work as usual.

But after a week or two, the new manager disappeared again. I guess he probably couldn’t hold on anymore. Then, it was my turn to start running a severe fever. One day, I could barely get out of bed. The next day, I struggled to go to the institute to meet the teacher. As soon as I entered the meeting room, I told the teacher directly, “Teacher, I’m leaving the institute today. Because I’ve been sick and feverish these past few days, I absolutely must leave. But I’m going to India early next month; can you settle my salary for me?”

Strangely enough, the teacher didn’t ask me for any details. He just looked pale and instructed me that I must not tell the new colleagues who were replacing me about the details of this situation or why I had to leave immediately, so that the new colleagues would continue my work. Only then would he allow me to leave immediately and settle my pay.

Later, I returned from India six months later and heard that everyone who replaced me had also left shortly after my resignation. Round after round of new employees said they were scared away by supernatural phenomena and didn’t dare stay. And since I left, the teacher rarely went into the office or taught classes anymore.

This truly was a very special experience. In fact, everyone in the institute was a very kind person who wanted to serve the public; they just chose a strange way of working and were too eager for success.
